Hatchful by Shopify
What it does: Free logo maker from Shopify. Pick your business type, visual style, and colors, and it generates logo options. Simpler than Looka but completely free to download.
Free tier: Fully free. Download logos in multiple formats at no cost. No watermark, no signup required.
Best for: Founders who want a decent logo in under 10 minutes with zero cost. The quality isn't as high as Looka, but the price is unbeatable.
Canva Logo Maker
What it does: Logo templates within Canva's design platform. Hundreds of customizable templates with drag-and-drop editing. Offers more creative control than Looka or Hatchful.
Free tier: Most logo templates are free. Some premium elements require Canva Pro ($12.99/month), but you can always swap premium elements for free ones.
Best for: Founders who want a logo that matches other brand materials they'll create in Canva (social media posts, business cards, pitch decks).
UI/UX Design
Figma (Free Starter Plan)
What it does: The industry-standard design tool for UI/UX. Create wireframes, prototypes, design systems, and production-ready mockups. Real-time collaboration, component libraries, auto-layout, and a massive plugin ecosystem.
Free tier: Unlimited personal files, 3 Figma files in team projects, unlimited collaborators on personal files, FigJam brainstorming boards (3 files), full access to the community file library.
Best for: Any founder planning to build software. Even if you hire a designer later, knowing Figma basics lets you communicate your vision clearly. Most developers in Miami and globally prefer receiving Figma files.
Penpot
What it does: Open-source design and prototyping platform. Similar capabilities to Figma -- vector editing, components, prototyping, real-time collaboration -- but fully free and self-hostable.
Free tier: Completely free. No feature limits. Open source (MPL 2.0 license). Cloud-hosted version available at no cost, or self-host for full control.
Best for: Founders who care about open source, want unlimited team projects for free, or need to self-host for compliance reasons. The community is growing fast and plugin support is expanding.
Graphics & Image Editing
Canva
What it does: The Swiss Army knife of design tools. Social media graphics, presentations, flyers, business cards, infographics, video editing, and more. 250,000+ free templates. Drag-and-drop interface means zero learning curve.
Free tier: 250,000+ templates, 100+ design types, 1 million+ free photos and graphics, 5GB cloud storage, real-time collaboration. The free tier is genuinely generous.
Best for: Non-designers who need to create marketing materials regularly. If you're a solo founder handling your own social media, Canva is non-negotiable.
Pixlr
What it does: Browser-based photo editor with Photoshop-like capabilities. Layers, masks, filters, AI-powered background removal, batch editing. No download required.
Free tier: Basic editing tools, AI background removal (limited uses per day), templates, and filters. The free tier adds a small watermark on some exports.
Best for: Quick photo editing tasks -- resizing product photos, removing backgrounds, adding text overlays. When Canva's photo editing isn't enough but Photoshop is overkill.
Presentations
Gamma
What it does: AI-powered presentation maker. Describe what you want, and Gamma generates a complete, beautifully designed presentation. Supports nested cards, embedded media, and interactive elements that traditional slides can't do.
Free tier: Unlimited presentations with Gamma branding. AI generation credits refresh monthly. Export to PDF. Custom domains require paid plan.
Best for: Founders who hate making slides. Feed it your one-page business plan and get a pitch deck in minutes. The output quality is surprisingly good -- we've seen Miami startup founders use Gamma decks for actual investor meetings.
Beautiful.ai
What it does: Smart presentation software that auto-formats slides as you add content. Pick a slide type (team, timeline, comparison, data), add your content, and the layout adjusts intelligently. No manual alignment needed.
Free tier: Limited free plan with Beautiful.ai branding. Enough to create and present, but export and custom branding require Pro ($12/month).

Color Palettes
Coolors
What it does: Color palette generator. Press spacebar to generate random palettes, lock colors you like, and keep generating until you find the perfect combination. Export as CSS, SVG, PDF, or image.
Free tier: Unlimited palette generation, export in multiple formats, save up to 5 palettes. Explore trending palettes from the community.
Best for: Founders choosing brand colors. Start with one color you like (your accent color), lock it, and generate complementary palettes around it.
Realtime Colors
What it does: Preview your color palette on an actual website layout in real time. Unlike Coolors (which shows color swatches), Realtime Colors shows you what your colors look like as text, backgrounds, buttons, and cards on a real page.
Free tier: Completely free. No account needed. Share palettes via URL.
Best for: Founders who struggle to visualize how color swatches translate to an actual UI. Essential for validating your palette before committing to it.
Icons
Phosphor Icons

Lucide
What it does: Community-driven icon set forked from Feather Icons with 1,500+ icons. Clean, consistent 24x24 grid. Available as SVG, React, Vue, Svelte, and more.
Free tier: Completely free and open source (ISC license). Active community adding new icons regularly.
Best for: Minimal, clean interfaces. If you like the Feather Icons aesthetic but need more icons and better maintenance, Lucide is the answer.
Heroicons
What it does: Hand-crafted SVG icons by the makers of Tailwind CSS. 300+ icons in outline and solid variants. Designed to work perfectly with Tailwind.
Free tier: Completely free and open source (MIT license). Copy-paste SVG code directly from the website.
Best for: If your product is built with Tailwind CSS (which we recommend for startups), Heroicons integrate seamlessly. The icon style matches Tailwind's design philosophy perfectly.
